The museum is run by Tobias Mayer Association founded in 1981 by Erwin Roth. The association has set itself the goal of informing about the life and work of the cartographer, astronomer and mathematician Tobias Mayer. We organize exhibitions, lectures, excursions, research and publish all kinds of publications that are suitable to spread the work of Tobias Mayer.
A first museum was built in 1985 on the ground floor of the birth place. In 1995, the Tobias-Mayer-Verein bought the house of Erwin Roth and enlarged the museum. In 2012, the association acquired the neighboring house in which until 2011 the apple farmer Hermann Breitenbücher lived. In the years 2015-2018, the birth house was renovated, sponsored by the RIVA company, and a new building was added at the site of the former Breitenbuecher House.
